About Us
OUR LEGACY OF COMPASSION
Heritage of Compassion: The Sisters of the Cross
The Sisters of the Cross congregation was founded in 1838 by Mother Claudine Echernier, a visionary woman filled with a deep passion for God and humanity. Moved by compassion and a strong commitment to serve the suffering, she laid the foundation for a life of service rooted in faith.
In 1886, the congregation extended its mission to India, establishing its presence in Amaravati. Since then, the Sisters have been deeply committed to the healing ministry, offering compassionate healthcare that has touched and transformed the lives of countless individuals across generations.
This legacy of care, faith, and service continues to inspire the mission of St. Mary’s Hospital today, fostering a community-centered approach to healthcare and social impact, especially among the poor and marginalized.

Our Hospital Journey
St. Mary’s Hospital was inaugurated on 10th May 2010, with Fr. Jeevan blessing the facility. Initially, the hospital operated with a focus on outpatient services and a small casualty ward consisting of four beds dedicated to emergency care.Dr. Angel, from St. John’s Hospital, joined as the first medical officer under the rural bond program, providing care in gynecology and general medicine. To build awareness in the surrounding villages, a medical camp and outreach visits were organized during the inauguration.
Growth and Development
The hospital quickly earned the trust of the local community, particularly for its gynecology services. A significant milestone occurred when Dr. Seshadri, a skilled surgeon, joined the hospital a year later. His expertise led to the development of several vital departments, including:
General Medicine, Pediatrics, Gynecology, ENT,
Orthopedics, Physiotherapy
This transformative growth marked St. Mary’s Hospital as a comprehensive healthcare facility, significantly improving regional healthcare access and providing holistic care to patients.
